May 15, 2020

Dear Mayor Van Kirk, Council Member Doyle, Council Member Kirkeide, Council Member Kirkham, Council Member Johnson:

The business community needs the Ham Lake Mayor and City Council to act now.

As the Executive Director of the Ham Lake Area Chamber of Commerce, I am writing to you today to urge you pass a resolution in support of our business community and the Constitution at the May 18, 2020, Ham Lake City Council Meeting.

While the expiration of the Stay at Home on Monday, May 18, 2020, is a great step by the state, many businesses continue to be closed or struggle and look to the city for support. As more time passes, more businesses will not be able to recover from the financial harm caused by the many Executive Orders and be forced to close permanently.

You can support the choice of businesses and residents to decide whether they will stay at home or open their businesses. You can expect residents and businesses to comply with Minnesota Department of Health and CDC Guidelines.  You can allow businesses to make the decision that best meets their needs.

I believe the businesses in Ham Lake have plans in place and are ready to safely reopen for business.

Thank you for your commitment to the City of Ham Lake, its businesses, and residents. The Ham Lake Area Chamber Commerce supports safely opening the businesses in our community.

Sincerely,

Shana Schmitz, Executive Director
